Fan-favorite A Nightmare on Elm Street marked it's 37th anniversary today. The cult classic originally premiered on November 9th 1984, following the strong lead of Tobe Hooper's Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974), John Carpenter's Halloween (1978) and Sean Cunningham's Friday The 13th (1980). The franchise's witty antagonist - Freddy Krueger is one of the best-recognised and well-loved horror characters of all times - few struggle to recognise his dirty red-and-green striped sweater and knife-like finger blades. The original cast including Robert Englund as Freddy, Heather Langenkamp as final girl Nancy, Johnny Depp as jock/boyfriend Glen and other horror icons like John Saxon, Ronee Blakley and Lin Shaye represent some of the prime up-and-coming talent of the era - the fresh meat of Hollywood horror. The film's intriguing plot - a predator who hunts you in your dreams, horrified audiences and inspired filmmakers for three generations. And Nightmare's whacky effects and ludicrous dialogs stayed with us long after the credits rolled.

With recent reboots of beloved horror series like Halloween and Scream hitting the big screen, NOES stans are left to wonder - is Freddy finally making a comeback?

So far the franchise consists of 9 chapters - the original 5-part series from the 80's, a crossover with Friday The 13th - Freddy Vs Jason (2003) and 2 reincarnations - Wes Craven's New Nightmare in 1994 and A Nightmare on Elm Street in 2010.
